Many prostate cancer patients add alternative therapy to conventional cancer therapy, but few tell their doctors. Researchers found that alternative medicine encompasses a wide variety of therapies. Thirty seven percent of the patients said they used at least one form of alternative treatment, but the investigators found that less than 10% of doctors were aware of this. All but one of the patients continued to use the alternative therapies even after they began chemotherapy. Despite efforts to ensure that patients were comfortable and likely to admit to use of the alternative therapies, the researchers suggest the study underestimates the true incidence of their use --- Cancer, 2/2000
